COOPER HEWITT APP
A vibrant, eccentric app, made to help visitors navigate the Cooper Hewitt Museum, and learn more about its art.
Tasked with creating an app prototype for a museum of our choice, my partner and I chose the Cooper Hewitt Museum. The app needed to be cohesive with the existing brand aesthetic of the museum. Beginning by navigating the museum’s website, we took note of issues we found in the user-experience and interface. The first thing we noticed, was that the navigation was overwhelming. To simplify it, we consolidated similar sections and used sub-menus.
We also discussed what kinds of things we would like to see in an ideal app for a museum. We needed to think about what museum goers need most from an app. Easy navigation and accessible information felt like the most beneficial. The existing site gave us inspiration on our font choices and color palette. We chose to utilize a simple sans-serif font throughout the app, establishing a hierarchy by changing the font’s sizing, weight, color and treatment. The result of our elaborate process revealed an app that is consistent in its design, and contains important features integral to a successful museum app.
